Background information

ASML's Research Department leads research projects to address the gaps in today's engineering problems and explore future technologies to enable the future of the semiconductor industry.

Your assignment

The trend in miniaturization of devices leads to more and more complex 3D designs of transistors like Gate-all-around (GAA), Forksheet and CFET. Metrology needs for these types of devices are huge. However, their 3D-character makes forward simulations expensive, in particular if global sensitivity landscapes are studied, which are paramount in order to set up model based reconstruction.

Surrogate modeling is one way around these issues. Via the polynomial chaos approach, it is possible to generate a surrogate model based on only the forward model outputs. This model is fast to evaluate thanks to analytical differentiation and it has a built-in global sensitivity analysis via Sobol indices.

As an intern, you will explore this approach on a state of the art GAA in simulation using Python.
